Mount Pinatubo eruption reaches out to Royston - 2

These two sunset photographs were taken at Coombes Hole, Royston in late December 1991/early January 1992 (exact date unknown) and illustrate the extent and brilliance of the colouring caused by the fine particles of ash which had been ejected from Mount Pinatubo some 6 months previously. In the foreground of the first photograph is the overhead electric of the Royston - Cambridge railway line. The world famous A3 Pacific locomotive 'Flying Scotsman' passed under these wires in both September 1999 and October 1999 (click here for photograph) on special workings from London Kings Cross to Norwich.
